A Busy Week for the Mayor and Mayoress of Barrow

November 6, 2025

It’s been another busy and enjoyable week for the Mayor and Mayoress of Barrow, Cllr Fred Chatfield and Liz Chatfield, as they have been out and about supporting our wonderful local community.

Barrow Raiders Rugby Match – Cumbria v Nigeria

Barrow Raiders kindly invited Cllr Chatfield to attend this special game on Sunday, and hosted him and other Cumbrian Mayors for a great afternoon of rugby, with the final score line being a win for Cumbria.

Dane Ghyll School Visit

On Monday, they visited Dane Ghyll School to meet the winners of a Cumbria in Bloom award and present the cup and certificate in front of the whole school — very well deserved.

They also judged the Best Pumpkin Decoration in each year group – with a huge congratulations to all the winners.

During their visit they were given a guided tour of the school’s garden by volunteer gardener Louise Postlethwaite – showcasing the hard work of all involved.

🎨 Art Gene Exhibition – Remember Nature: Intra-actions

On Tuesday evening, they attended Art Gene to open their Remember Nature: Intra-actions exhibition at their gallery within the Nan Tait Centre on Abbey Road.

Featuring artists Maddi Nicholson, Alistair Debling, and Faye Matloub, the exhibition brings together art and food to explore our relationship with the land, living systems, and each other.

The exhibition continues until Friday 21st November — well worth a visit.

A huge thank you to everyone who hosted the Mayor and Mayoress this week for your warmth, dedication, and community spirit. 💚
