The Mayor of Barrow, Cllr Fred Chatfield, and the Mayoress, Liz Chatfield, have enjoyed another busy and rewarding week representing the town at a range of local events.

They were delighted to attend the University of Cumbria Stakeholders Dinner, which brought together speakers from education, health, Team Barrow, charities and industry. The evening provided an excellent opportunity to engage in informative discussions and strengthen partnerships focused on improving Barrow’s future.

On Thursday, the Mayor and Mayoress were pleased to visit Furness Academy at the invitation of Year 10 students. During the visit, students asked thoughtful and engaging questions about the roles and responsibilities of the Mayor and Mayoress, including how they support the town and make important decisions. The students also showed great interest in the civic robe and chains. Cllr Chatfield and Mrs Chatfield thoroughly enjoyed meeting the pupils and spending the afternoon with them.

On Friday evening, they attended the Barrow Buzz Business Awards, organised by Barrow BID. The Mayor had the pleasure of presenting several well-deserved awards to local businesses. Guests also enjoyed an excellent meal prepared and served by the Forum catering staff.

The evening included a surprise performance by characters inspired by Fawlty Towers, who entertained attendees with a lively and humorous act. The Mayor and Mayoress congratulated the Barrow BID team and Cando FM on organising a highly successful and enjoyable event.
