On Sunday 21st September, Barrow came together to mark the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, with a parade through the town and a service of remembrance at the War Memorial in Barrow Park.
It was a fitting occasion to pay respects to those who served with such courage, and to all who contributed to the defence of our country. The service, led by Rev Hamm, was both poignant and moving, reminding us of the enduring importance of remembrance.
The Battle of Britain, fought between July and October 1940, was the first major military campaign fought entirely in the air. It proved to be a turning point of the Second World War, as the Royal Air Force defended Britain from sustained aerial attack, ensuring that invasion was prevented. The bravery, skill, and sacrifice of those involved continues to inspire and unite us in remembrance 85 years on.
The occasion brought together serving personnel, veterans, cadet forces, civic leaders, and residents, honouring the courage and sacrifice of all those who supported the defence of our nation in 1940.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) for organising the event and for helping to bring our community together in remembrance.
Our thanks go to all who took part in the parade and to everyone who joined us in honouring this important moment in our history.
We will remember them. ![]()
