The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Fred Chatfield and Liz Chatfield, attended a number of community events across Barrow during a busy and varied week.

On Wednesday, they were invited to a meeting of the Rotary Club of Furness at Furness Golf Club. The visit included an excellent meal and an informative presentation by past president Brian Boyd, which explored the history of the Royal Port of Barrow, from its early conception through to the King’s visit to formally present the port with its Royal Charter.

On Thursday morning, they joined volunteers in the Barrow town centre for a Barrow Rising–sponsored litter pick, supporting efforts to keep the area clean and welcoming.

Later that evening, they attended the opening of the new Dropzone youth project. During the visit, he was introduced to the wide range of positive activities and support the project provides for young people. Guests also heard a thoughtful poem written and performed by one of the young people, reflecting on their experiences at Dropzone, followed by a buffet for those attending.

The week concluded on Saturday with attendance at Carols at the Coro in Ulverston, following an invitation from the Mayor of Ulverston, Councillor Shirley-Anne Wilson. The festive afternoon featured performances from the Ulverston Training Brass Band, Ulverston Town Band, the Furness Bach Choir and pupils from Church Walk Primary School, along with mulled wine and mince pies.
