Barrow Town Council was delighted to support 10 local Veterans through a grant that enabled them to take part in an unforgettable sailing experience aboard the Klevia, sailing from Oban to Barrow last week.
The Veterans arrived in Barrow in time to take part in the Royal Port of Barrow Festival of the Sea, bringing with them memories, new friendships and an incredible story to share.
It was a privilege for Barrow Town Council to authorise the grant supporting this fantastic opportunity and to see local Veterans experience something truly special, while spending time together and building lasting connections.

One of the Veterans shared:
“Thank you most sincerely for granting me the opportunity to sail as a veteran on board Klevia last week. The experience was unforgettable. It was all the better for being so unexpected and out of the blue, from Barrow Town Council. I made a number of good and lasting friendships with people who make a difference in other people’s lives, and so the benefits of your initiative will multiply to the benefit of our society.”
Another Veteran said:
“I would like to thank the Council for the funding for the Veterans sailing on the Klevia. I was fortunate to be accompanied by my nephew Phil, which was great to spend some time together and also great for both of our mental health. We had an amazing week with the other Veterans, and our Captain Scott and his partner were absolute legends. A special thanks to Adrian and Shell from the Pelican for the chance to do this and their support to Veterans.”
A huge thank you to everyone involved, particularly the crew of the Klevia, Adrian and Shell from the Pelican, and all those who helped make this opportunity possible.
Most importantly, we hope the 10 Veterans who took part will carry these memories and friendships with them for many years to come.
Barrow Town Council is proud to support our local Veterans and the wider community.
